Funky Bunk Beds began when we couldn’t find a made-to-measure bunk bed for our children’s small bedroom — so we built one ourselves. After specialist safety training, our unique staircase design went viral, and demand quickly turned our hobby into a full-time family business.

Today, we design and build bespoke beds and matching furniture with clever storage and fun features like slides and play dens, delivering across the UK. Our motto remains: “As a family, we run this business for the love of children and the understanding of being parents.”

Alongside expanding our design range, we’ve also stepped into the trade industry. We discovered that it wasn’t just the public who lacked this service — many businesses did too. One notable project was for Stamford University in America, who commissioned us to supply beds, wardrobes, and desks for their London student accommodation. From there, demand grew further, leading us to work on large-scale student refurbishments, interior design projects, schools, libraries, and more.

No matter the size, we take on projects big or small. We tailor our made-to-measure furniture to each client, with all design and manufacturing done in-house for a truly personalised service. To keep the process smooth, every customer has a single point of contact from start to finish.

Woodwork has been in our family since 1940, when our great-grandfather, Arthur Shirt, began crafting unique designs that set the foundation for generations to come. The business has been passed down through our family, growing with each era, and is now run by our parents.

As children, we grew up watching our parents and grandparents create and supply products to major industrial firms, inheriting the skills, techniques, and knowledge of experienced carpenters and joiners.

Through Funky Bunk Beds, we carry forward this legacy — honouring our great-grandfather’s passion for woodwork and the endless creativity it inspires.
